Art Historical Shoe-Ins: Christian Louboutin Reinterprets Classic Artworks as Shoe Promotions

At first glance, the light of the sacred flame emanating from a burning candle, the skull resting on Magadalene's lap, and the books sitting on the desk in the background appear to be a dead give away for "Magdalene with the Smoking Flame," the ca. 1640 Georges de La Tour painting that calls the Los Angeles County of Museum of Art home. But then, wait — there is a fur Christian Louboutin Platforms Puck boot atop the desk as well, and then the realization is made: It's a recreation!
The photograph is one of seven created present-day interpretations of classic works of art for Louboutin's f/w 2011 collection look book. Photographer Peter Lippmann created seven portraits inspired by the masterpieces, showcasing the shoes (and one shoulder bag) in a supporting role, making the new portraits pieces of art in themselves.

"The historic models depicted within the gallery embody the spirit of the Christian Louboutin woman;
Christian Louboutin Wedges  each portrait acts as a setting for key creations from the upcoming collection twinned with the artist whose individual technique and subject defines their distinct character," reads a release from the luxury shoe maker.
